This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage that Fear & Greed uses, what each one is for, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy.
A cookie is a small text file a site stores in your browser and reads back on later requests. Cookies set by this site are “first party”. Cookies set by another domain are “third party”. Related technologies — local storage, session storage — store data in your browser in a similar way but are not sent to our servers.
We do not use advertising cookies, behavioural or cross-site tracking cookies, marketing pixels, fingerprinting, or third-party analytics. We do not sell or share cookie data, and no cookie on this site is used to build a profile of you or to follow you across other websites.
Every cookie below is strictly necessary: the sign-in and password-gate features cannot work without them. If you never sign in and never enter a password-protected area, none of them are set.
| Cookie | Purpose | Category | Duration | Party |
|---|---|---|---|---|
authjs.session-token | Keeps you signed in between page loads. Set only after you sign in. | Strictly necessary | 30 days, or until you sign out | First party |
authjs.csrf-token | Protects sign-in and sign-out from cross-site request forgery. | Strictly necessary | Session | First party |
authjs.callback-url | Remembers which page to return you to after a sign-in redirect. | Strictly necessary | Session | First party |
authjs.pkce.code_verifier | Secures the Google sign-in exchange. Set only while a Google sign-in is in progress. | Strictly necessary | 15 minutes | First party |
private_gate | Records that you have entered the password for a password-protected section. | Strictly necessary | Session | First party |
Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Auth.js cookies may carry a __Secure- prefix in production, which is the same cookie served over HTTPS only.
These preferences are kept in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, are never transmitted to us, and clearing your browser data removes them:
Under the UK PECR and the EU ePrivacy Directive, consent is required for cookies that are not strictly necessary to deliver a service you have asked for. Every cookie we set is strictly necessary and is set only in response to an action you take — signing in, or entering a password. There is therefore nothing for you to consent to or opt out of, and a banner would ask you to accept things we do not do. If we ever add analytics or any other non-essential cookie, we will ask for your consent first, before it is set, and add a control here.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings — look for “Cookies and site data” under privacy settings in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Signing out clears your session cookie. Because the cookies we set are strictly necessary, blocking them will stop you from signing in or from reaching password-protected sections, but the rest of the site will continue to work.
If the cookies we use change, we will update this page and the date at the top. Questions: patrickv.disc@gmail.com.
